GSM – Type of Visa

The General Skilled Migration Program (GSM) is designed for individuals who are not sponsored by an employer but possess skills in specific occupations that are in demand in Australia. This program is the most common visa option for migration to Australia.
To apply for GSM visas, applicants must meet the following basic requirements:
  • Be between 18 and 44 years of age at the time of application
  • Hold a tertiary qualification that is equivalent to Australian standards
  • Obtain a positive skills assessment in a recognized skilled occupation
  • Demonstrate competency in English

Offshore Skilled Visa Subclasses

There are a variety of skilled migration options for offshore applicants:

Permanent Visa

This visa allows you to travel to and enter Australia for five (5) years from the date it is granted. It provides full work and study rights in Australia. The options for permanent visas include:

– Skilled Independent (Migrant) Subclass 189
– Skilled Sponsored (Migrant) Subclass 190

Provisional Visa

This is a provisional visa valid for five (5) years, designed for skilled workers who do not meet the criteria for a permanent visa. After living and working in Australia for three (3) years, you will have the opportunity to apply for Permanent Residency. The provisional visa option available is:
